The moment the weather changes there are sometimes several things our brain remembers its time to do. Like order a seasonal drink from Starbucks, pumpkin patches, leggings and sweaters come out, and one more huge thing…… Fall family pictures. I call it Christmas card season. When you add kiddos into the mix of family pictures sometimes there are worries or simply more that goes into planning. In my welcome guide, I go over some tips for having your session go smoother with kiddos, but I wanted to maybe go into a little more detail here.
You book your session, you have alllllll the outfits picked out, all hanging up in the door way or the curtain rod in your bedroom to look over just one more time. You’ve told your kiddos about pictures, you’ve packed bribery, maybe threatened them on the car ride over, you get out of the car, and they freeze. Getting your pictures taken by someone knew can make you feel all the feelings. As a parent, you could also have some of these feelings. Imagine how your kids are feeling, if you have feelings towards this day as well.
Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of your session, your littles will hit a wall, and only want you. They are feeling shy or scared, give them some love. Play with their hair. Sing them a song. Embrace the moment instead of fighting it. Sit on the ground and snuggle them.
If they are feeling shy and don’t want to look at the camera, explore with them. Throw rocks into the water, find a stick and have a little battle. Dad can run around with them on their back, or toss them in the air. Or all can join in for a silly game of ring-around-the-rosie.
So just because your kiddos are feelings some feelings, I want you to know that there are many ways to go around this. Embrace this session as an experience and have fun with it. It doesn’t have to be weird or uncomfortable. I want this to be something you talk about in the car on the way home, how fun that was, or remember how silly little brother was.
